This page guides you on the technical requirements that will give you the best learning experience on this site. It is a step-by-step guide for novice students with little or no knowledge of online classes. Follow these steps precisely in the order presented:
Note: This guide is for computers only. If you use an iPad or a mobile phone, you will still be able to effectively study, but you should find another option for item #2 (VPN) below if needed.
What you will need
#1. Browser
First, you need to have a reliable browser. You may be reading this page using Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (IE), Apple’s Safari, or some other uncommon browsers. These may work fine on this page but they would not work best with courses and quizzes.
The best browser is Google Chrome. If you do not have Chrome, please download it here.
Maybe you can’t access Google because it is blocked in your country. If that is the case, I have uploaded the Chrome offline installer files for you. Please download below:
— Chrome Offline Installer for Windows
— Chrome Offline Installer for Mac
Both files have been zipped (please unzip and install)
#2. VPN
Most of the videos on the website are hosted on YouTube. If you cannot access YouTube on your computer, then you need a VPN. I provide you with a free VPN for Chrome. Please download it here and follow the following steps to install it in your chrome browser.
i. Save the zip file on your computer. Unzip it. There is a new file inside named “Chrome SetUp VPN.crx“. Keep this file
ii. Open the Chrome Extensions page (type chrome://extensions/ in your address bar and press Enter.
iii. Turn on Developer Mode. It is on the top right corner, push the slider to the right (See the screenshot below)
iv. Drag the .crx file and drop it into the extensions page.
You should now notice your Chrome browser has a small icon on the top right corner (see screenshots below).
v. Click on the icon, choose your language,
vi. Create an account using your email address
vii. Sign in and select a server of your choice (e.g: Australia)
Your VPN is now set up in Chrome. You can connect to the VPN any time you want. ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#3. Zoom
For group meetings, we will meet via Zoom. Please sign up for a Zoom account here. Then download a desktop version of Zoom here and install it on your computer.
#4. Edmodo
All your assignments will be submitted on Edmodo. You can solve math problems in your books, take a picture of the solutions and submit the photo on Edmodo. For more convenience, you can download the Edmodo mobile app from the App Store (Android, iPhone, or iPad). These mobile apps have a built-in feature which lets you take the picture directly in the app.
